October 16, 2011

As I write today, it is only three weeks until the birth of my first grandchild. Graeson James should make his appearance the first week of November. The waiting has been crazy.
Our class will be very busy the next few weeks. This time of the year brings a lot of excitement to the room. We have even started learning some songs for the Christmas Program.
The Pumpkin Farm trip is coning up soon. October 26. Remember that each student must have a chaperon. We will meet at Papa Johns at 8:45. Please get those permission slips ASAP. Also keep in mind that there will not be Before or After Care on that day.
Grandparents Day is Wednesday, November 18. I love this day. There is nothing like showing off my class to their grandparents. I will be putting out a sign up sheet to get the names of those attending. I really need to know who is coming as we are making a special gift for each set of grandparents.

Another school year and what a strange beginning.
The last couple of weeks have been very interesting to say the least. First the earthquake, then Irene and then the "soaker" remnants of Tropical Storm Lee! I was thrilled to see the sun yesterday afternoon, finally.
We seem to have gotten off to a good start. Of course, over time the students will get used to me and my routines and things will start to smooth out. Please reinforce the classroom rules with your child. We learned the first week of school, that rules are everywhere and they are important.
I use the Treasure Box to reward those students who follow the rules and make good choices. The first week, all the students were allowed to get in the Treasure Box, but this past week, I had to keep a few from choosing something. It is painful for me to have to tell a child they can't have Treasure Box, yet they know the rules and the consequences. As time goes on I hope all children will be rewarded every week!
Noah and his obedience to God will be our bible story this week. I guess last week would have been the better week, though since we will be talking about a flood! We will also be learning about our 5 senses. This is always a fun unit to teach as there is so much to do with it. We will finish up on Friday by making popcorn in the classroom. We can use all 5 senses at one time as we see it , hear it, smell it, touch it and finally taste it!
Each week we discuss Character Development Traits. Week one we talked about "courtesy". Last week it was "wall mannered" and this week it is "obedience". I hope you see evidences of these behaviors in the lives of your children as we continue to go over them each week!
     SHOW and TELL
Please don't forget this special time for your child. Keep your school calendar posted where it can be easily seen so your child will not miss out on these special days. Keep the items limited to ONE and make sure it is related to the theme of our show and tell. Don't allow them to just bring in any toy from home. The calendar will show you what type of item to send in. This week they are to bring in something purple and /or green!
We have a tank full of tadpoles in our room! I certainly don't want to keep them. If you would like your child to have one or even a couple, bring a container in with you any time this week and I will be only too happy to give you some! They are fun to watch as they change into frogs.
LOOKING AHEAD
Picture day will be Tuesday, September 27. Notices will be out soon.
Scholastic book orders are due by Friday, September 16th. Thank you for placing orders. This is a great way for you to build a library for your child. The books are very inexpensive and they are of high quality. The best part is that when you place an order on line, I get a coupon for $3.00 to spend on books for our classroom!. I have a huge library in our room due mainly to Scholastic!! So place an order, you won't be disappointed!!
Pumpkin Farm Trip!! I love this trip! We will be going to Papa Johns Farm on Friday October 26. Remember, each child must have an adult chaperon. Make arrangements now to go with your child. Fall is such a beautiful season and being out on that farm is so refreshing. Let's start praying now for a dry day!
Thank you for choosing FBCDC for your child's Pre-School experience. I hope you will see a  Godly change in their life. I want them to leave my class in May with a greater understanding of God and who He is as well as  have them prepared for Kindergarten. If I can be of any help to you or your family, please let me know. The prayer list is out in the hall  for you. Please know that I pray for your child daily. I have seen God do miraculous things! Never underestimate the power of God .

Finally Updating The Blog!!!

I can't believe that I let this go for so long. So as I sit here enjoying a snow day I thought it would be a great time to get caught up!
First of all, a very special thank you to all of those who contributed to the teachers Bonus Fund. As always, I am overwhelmed by your generosity. And to those who have given gifts to me personally, I thank you! I know that with so many people to buy for, thinking of me is quite an honor and I am so grateful for your thoughtfulness.
We have been learning about the works and miracles of Jesus this week. I want so much for your children to know just how wonderful and loving our Savior is. We have also started discussing different character qualities. We started with courtesy, then well mannered. In the next two weeks we will be discussing obedience and respectfulness. Ask them about these different character qualities. I hope they have been practicing them at home.
I have also been talking to them about Fairy Tales and how they differ from the stories we read from God's Word. Prov. 30:5 says" Every word of God is pure, He is a shield unto those who put their trust in Him." God's Word is so powerful and as these children grow I want them to know that they can always seek it's wisdom to help them grow in Christ!
Valentine's Day will be upon us soon. Our party will be on Monday, Feb 14. A sign up sheet will be out soon. We will be making a Friendship Salad. Each child will be allowed to bring in a fruit to add into the salad. We will be cutting and chopping and having a good time in the home area. I will also be sending home a class list. It will be helpful if any cards your child brings in, come in before the party so we don't have everyone trying to put them in the bags at the same time. You can help your child do this or Mrs. Jessica and Mrs. Boone can help them.
LADIES: If you are free on Saturday, the 29th, my church is having a Blast From the Past Fashion Show and Fellowship. Ladies are asked to dress in clothing styles from the past. I am doing the 60's!! There will be food, skits and a short devotional. Please come , it should be a BLAST! Let me know if you are interested. It starts at 5:00 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Ferndale.
If you are looking for an extracurricular activity for your children, my church also has a Master Clubs program on Friday nights at 7:00. It is like the Awanas Program offered at Faith. Children from age 4 through grade 6 are invited to attend. Each Friday night through May you can bring your children, and you and your husband can have a night out. Our Master Club staff will take good, loving care of your children until you return. My daughter Megan, Mrs. Jessica and I help out there as well. See me if you would like more details. The program is run by Mrs. Jessica's husband who is the Associate Pastor at our church.
If you did not get a phone call from the One Call Now about school closings, please see Mrs. Colleen to update your phone number.
Don't forget to send in your child's reader each day.
Registration for Kindergarten is underway. Please consider FBCDC for Kindergarten. Mrs. Judy, is a sweet, Godly woman and an excellent teacher.
